Meet Dominik Bronakowski
After many conversations with friends, family, and local elected leaders, I’m excited to run and bring change to City Hall. Like many of you, I believe it’s time for a fresh perspective to step up in our community and help bring positive change to Des Plaines.
As a lifelong resident of Des Plaines, I was born and raised in this community. I attended Maine West High School, and Oakton College before transferring to Illinois State University, where I earned my bachelor’s degree. After graduation, I returned to Des Plaines to begin my career in public service.
Professionally, I work as an Outreach Director in the Illinois House of Representatives, specializing in community outreach and constituent services. Every day, I help residents navigate the complexities of local and state government—from assisting small businesses in applying for state funding to creating outreach initiatives that connect residents with government resources. Public service is my passion, and helping people is what I love to do. Additionally, I proudly serve on the Des Plaines Planning and Zoning Board, where I act as an independent voice, challenging the status quo and advocating for thoughtful, forward-thinking growth in our community.
Thank you for taking the time to learn more about my campaign and the values I stand for. I appreciate your interest and hope to earn your vote in the April 1, 2025, election!
The Issues:
The reason I am specifically running for Clerk is simple: I believe in an inclusive and forward-thinking government. The Clerk’s office plays a vital role in holding City Hall accountable to residents and serves as the local election authority during municipal elections. If elected, I promise to:
Building Transparency
As the records keeper for the city, the Clerk’s office has a responsibility to keep residents informed about what’s happening in Des Plaines. If elected, I will establish an easy-to-read monthly newsletter summarizing City Council meetings, ensuring residents stay informed and have access to clear records of their aldermen’s votes on key issues. Additionally, I will build out the Clerk’s social media presence to improve visibility and keep the public updated on actions taken at City Hall.
Promoting Accessibility
Des Plaines is a working-class community, and far too often, residents are unable to attend City Council meetings to have their concerns heard by the City Council. I want to expand the ability to submit remote comments into the record will help ensure that those who have difficulty attending meetings can still have their voices heard. This initiative will strengthen Des Plaines’ commitment to engaging with its residents while also supporting accessibility efforts for those unable to attend due to personal or physical limitations.
Making local elections more competitive
Too often, potential candidates are discouraged from running for office due to the challenges involved—whether it’s facing an incumbent or navigating the complex legal paperwork. This lack of accessibility leads to limited competition in our democratic process. If elected, I will create a local candidate guide with petition packets available to all city residents, making it as easy as possible to run for office. Our elections should be as competitive as possible, letting the best ideas rise to the top.
